Blackstone Merlot 2009

We enjoyed this wine with our friends Ian and Natalie at an incredible dinner party where Ian made gourmet-style short ribs and Natalie baked Aaron’s all-time favorite dessert.

Blackstone Merlot can be found at almost all wine retailers and is produced and shipped on a large scale. It is a favorite of many, including Teri’s mom.

Total Wine & More, $6.97
BevMo, $8.99

Aaron: I found this wine to be slightly tart with apples on the smell.  It was relatively light for a Merlot and while the taste was smooth across the palate, the swallow left a slightly bitter remnant.  The flavor itself was very pleasant, featuring blackberries and raspberries intertwined with a splash of vanilla.  For a mainstream wine this was not bad.  86 points

Teri: This bottle is a standard of many retailers and restaurant wine lists.  It is your classic red table wine with a familiar name that many will recognize. For me the wine is medium bodied with some mild flavors of berry but this gives it versatility to go with many food items. It is always a safe bet if you want something reliable and don’t mind drinking a general merlot. 85 points
