Carmen Gran Reserva Merlot 2009

Cost Plus World Market, $15.99

Aaron: The fruity, dry smell of strawberry and raspberry made me think of a fresh pie.  The flavor was extremely dry and exploded with moderate tannins.  These led to a lasting flavor but were on the bitter side.  Subdued earth tones encircled berry flavors making this acceptable but not as good as some.  88 points

Teri: Carmen’s Merlot has a musty dark fruit smell with some characteristics of dark plums on the nose. The taste carried medium tannins with a dry medium bodied finish. I noticed raspberry, celery, oak, dark cherries, and cloves. Many more flavors than other wines I have had from the Chilean region. 88 points
