Montoya Old Vine Zinfandel 2009

Total Wine & More, $9.99 – $13.99

Aaron:  This is great for cigars, horrible for food.  The full, robust smell is nutty with some lighter fruits and slightly tart on the nose.  Unfortunately, this was harsh, especially for an old vine zin.  Smoke and tobacco overpowered any fruit flavors and I would recommend newbies avoid this one.  86 points

Teri: With most old vine zinfandel you can taste the age and maturity of the grapes in the wine, and this bottle is no exception with a smooth and mature flavor. This bottle has a bold smell of blackberries and a hint of coco on the flavor to balance out the prune, raisin, and berry flavors. Strong tannins on the finish and a hit of smoke. Not my favorite Zinfandel coming from the Lodi region but is has some noteworthy value. 86 points
