Reserve des Capucins Cotes du Rhone 2011

Reserve des Capucins Cotes Du RhoneWine of the Month Club, $15.98

Aaron:  We’ve received very few bottles from “Wine of the Month” clubs which we would actively seek out – I mean we like a bunch of them but rarely do we want to try the same bottle twice – this is an exception!  The lovely smell of burnt amber and green pines was exotic but the points are truly in the flavor.  This was one of the most perfectly balanced wines I’ve had; extremely mellow and smooth, nothing was overpowering.  Mild berries were complemented by oak-coated tobacco and this was bold without being overpowering.  94 points

Teri: French reds are often known for their heavier earthy flavors over the California fruit forward flavors, but this one takes the cake for having the best of both worlds. Not only is it a beautiful rich magenta color with an okay rhubarb smell, but its flavors of tobacco and raspberry are perfectly balanced leaving a wonderful wine with a medium to long finish. Structured but not too heavy makes this a great food pairing wine. 91 points
