Edmeades Petite Sirah 2012

Purchased from Edmeades Tasting Room, $35

Aaron: Licorice was an unexpected participant on the mildly full, black nose of this Petite Sirah which also sported dark oak and vine-covered wooden fence posts.  Heavy tannins make their presence known along the sides of your tongue, which force the flavor to be dry but still very full and satisfying.  I wish I could taste more of the flavor to be honest, there’s lots of berry and vanilla with chocolate and silver but the chalky tannins make it hard for those flavors to break through.  89 points

Teri: Big and Bold. This wine stands up to your big hearty meals and other bold savory flavors. I could smell dark forest berries with a hint of chocolate on the nose than on first sip – prominent flavors of blueberry compote with plum and baking soda on the finish. Strong and long lasting flavor but a bit chalky tannins at the start. The wine smoothed out further as the evening went on. I suggest aerating it for at least an hour before enjoying this wine. 90 points
