Aaron:  Light melon and the nose with some subtle citrus.  The flavor is very tangy, like a tangerine candy almost.  I noted a lot of salt and sand, this wasn’t my favorite.  86 points

Teri: White wine blends can vary greatly, but this is one of the better ones I have tasted. The lemon characteristics on the nose open up to flavors of pineapple, lavender, and orange peel. With a very full finish, for a white, it leaves you with lovely lingering flavors of balanced fruit and floral together. I would enjoy this with a salad with a citrus dressing or fish, but it was also very enjoyable on its own. Try this one if you like your white wines a little more bold. 89 points

Castillo Catadau Gran Reserva 2005 Tempranillo

Purchased from Naked Wines, $11.99

Aaron: This had a full bodied nose featuring pepper, strawberry and raspberry.  I noticed a prominent cherry flavor but more importantly a little too many tannins on the finish. These were accompanied by a significant spice which was almost tart but completely different from the flavor.  I felt this was heavy for a Tempranillo and had a starkly different finish and flavor.  88 points

Teri: Aside from the slight tart flavor, this Tempranillo was filled with berry and dark cherry flavors on the smell and taste. It rounds out with full tannins and a strong oak flavor on the finish. 87 points

O’Vineyards Trah Lah Lah Red Blend 2005

Red Blend: 65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon

Online Purchase from Naked Wines, $15.99

Aaron:  They lost points for the name – seriously?? – but won them back with the wine.  The full earthy smell featured cinnamon and peppermint with a slight sweetness; this was unique and tantalizing.  There was a subtle complexity to the flavor which was medium bodied and smooth with some noticeable tannins.  The taste was comprised mostly of nearly-ripe berries but had hints of other participants (hence the subtlety).  The finish was nice but left some chalkiness on the tongue.  91 points

Teri: This red blend from France carries a medium smell of fruit with a smooth flavor and medium tannins. I tasted strong strawberry/cranberry at the start melting into a strawberry finish with a hint of spicy oak. This almost tasted more like juice than wine. 89 points
