Purchased from Splash Wines, $13.95

Aaron:  There was lots of strawberry on the nose with some red cake frosting.  The flavor was almost bitter and very similar to the smell with mulberry and small red berries.  Some tree bark and wet wood provided additional body.  89 points

Teri: This wine is bold and different. Flavors of chocolate covered blackberries, baked plum, and cucumber rind fill the mouth with a background of cedar that is abundant on the finish. Full of flavor and body but still smooth and easy to drink. 90 points

Bone Dance Merlot 2008

Purchased from World Market, $19 retail BoneDance Merlot 2008

JAQK Cellars Website, $29

Aaron:  There was noticeable pepper and dark berries on the nose which mirrored the full body and good flavor.  Mild tannins highlighted the oak but muddied the flavor.  87 points

Teri: I love the branding and theme JAQK Cellars has done with their line up of wines. Each bottle is unique and creative playing not only to those who appreciate the wine underneath but also those who appreciate the art and beauty of the packaging. This bottle caught my eye with it’s dice and Vegas style etching and I was just as pleased with the wine inside. With spice on the nose and flavors of warm cherry pie and spicy oak this bottle pleases many tastes. It does carry noticeable tannins but they lay smooth with a medium linger on the end. Pick this up to enjoy the wine or bring as a gift for parties, either option is bound to please. 90 points

Chateau De Terrefort-Quancard Bordeaux 2008

Special thanks to Katie and Kristin for giving us this fantastic bottle!

Average price, $15

Aaron: This one gets two ratings for me.  New drinkers, stay away but veterans: seek this out!  The smell was powerful, full of woody bark and berries.  Mild in the mouth, this was not too thick but didn’t sacrifice body.  A slight sourness on the end reminds the drinker this is not a sweet wine but a more complex vintage.  When I imagine a good, traditional wine (ie. not the fruit filled jam of Napa wines) this is what I want!  92 points – experienced; 86 points – newbies

Teri:  First off, there is fantastic spice throughout the entire flavor with hints of red berries and current. The earthy nose of oak and spice yields way to an extremely smooth flavor. Being bottled for a few years past production, the tannins have mellowed out to yield a smooth flavor and texture. Still bold with a long, velvety, fi<!– /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Times New Roman"; panose-1:0 2 2 6 3 5 4 5 2 3; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:50331648 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-parent:""; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1nish. 91 points

Steep Slope Riesling Qualitatswein 2008 Mosel

Aaron:  This does NOT smell like a riesling at all. The nose had no sweetness and more leaves than I’m used to.  A bit of melon and lemon made for an interesting though not overwhelming bottle.  88 points

Teri: My first thought with this wine was its light smell of citrus and the crisp sweetness it carried, not syrupy but just a hint on the finish with lovely honey characteristics. I also tasted soft flavors of lemon, melon, and orange before the finish of honey. Light and refreshing overall. This wine would be great for many types of wine drinkers, especially those who are new to wine. 88 points
