Villa Maria New Zealand Dry Riesling 2010 Private Bin

Villa Maria New Zeland Dry Resiling

Dry Riesling on Villa Maria Website

Wine of the Month Club, Feb 2015, $15.99

Aaron: Dry, fruity peach nose with some slate and mushroom.  This riesling is nice and crisp with some tangy citrus and orange fruits.  Tangerine and cantaloupe flavors are fine but not incredible.  88 points

Teri: The best part of this wine is the juxtaposition of the bright flavors to the clean dry finish of the wine. A nose of peach and green apple are reflected in the wine itself, carrying further green apple characteristics along with white peach and bitter pear. This wine is very easy to drink and I give it 90 points for its flavor and drinkability.

Cottesbrook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Total Wine & More, $11.99

Aaron: Crisp, nutty flavors were interwoven with melon and citrus to form an almost sparkling sensation.  This white was dry with a unique flavor including green apple but there were additional, bitter sensations which were hard to pinpoint.  The finish was gentle but this left me wanting more.  88 points

Teri: This wine has a pleasant, fruity/nutty smell with lemon, apricot, and peach. On the dryer side, the citrus oak flavor on the finish is smooth and the wine itself carries very little body with grassy undertones. It is an easy drinking wine with some good qualities, just not to my personal taste preference. This wine would balance well with sweet dishes. 87 points

Kim Crawford Pinot Noir 2011

Total Wine & More, $14.49

Aaron: This pinot has a slightly smoky nose and mildly spicy nose, contrasted by heavy blackberry and vanilla flavors.  I felt it was full for a pinot and though the smell was harsh, the finish was smooth.  90 points

Teri:  This medium bodied pinot carried more of a woody/leafy smell with a raspberry taste and mild woody aftertaste (possibly strong characteristics of reds from New Zealand). It has some spice with the berry flavors but not my favorite overall. 87 points

Kemblefield Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Featuring a guest post by Aunt Donna!

Purchased from Total Wine & More: $8.99

Aaron: Though normally a red guy, I greatly enjoyed this bottle.  The strong citrus and apple flavors were crisp and left a wonderful flavor on the palate.  The nose was a little weak but this was more than compensated for by the flavor.  I actually found this to be surprisingly creamy on the finish for a savignon blanc and loved how long the flavor lingered on.  This was a refreshing white which paired well with a nice tropical chicken dish.  I would highly recommend.  90 points

Teri: This Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and refreshing. Complementary to the nice light color of the wine the taste was full and lingers on the taste buds. The stainless steal fermentation of the grape brings out full cantaloupe and grapefruit flavors without any oak. Great bottle for any occasion. 92 points

Auntie: I usually enjoy white wines, but this was a little too sweet and fruity for me.  Personally, I love nice buttery Chardonnays, so I was hoping to get a richer flavor.  It was unique and nice for a one time trial, but I probably wouldn’t buy it on my own.  85 Points
