Lot 18 / The Tasting Room Wine Club, $22

Vivino Website Rating

Aaron:  I was really happy with this bottle.  The nose starts out as a brushfire with dried bushes and raspberry vanilla in the background.  The fruity velvet flavor is pleasant but the super smooth finish with a hint of pepper won me over.  There’s lots of chocolate and black fruit lingering on the palate; enjoy.  91 points

Teri: The Needle Cab has a juicy red fruit nose with flavors of oaky black cherry, rhubarb, and other dark fruits. I also identified a bit of dried herb (maybe parsley) on both the nose and the finish. This wine is smooth and easy to drink but hearty. Aaron and I enjoyed this with steak and it paired perfectly. 90 points

Aaron:  I enjoyed this, great easy-to-find, appealing wine.  Dark moss and mulberry flooded the nose with some plum dancing in the background.  The flavor was juicy with red and purple fruits followed by leather and velvet.  There was a slight bitterness at the end which made me pucker but wasn’t bad.  89 points.

Teri: Raspberry nose with hints of plum, this fruit forward zinfandel is hearty with flavors of plum and oak that sit on the back of the mouth. Additional flavors of sweet oak, blackberry and white pepper round out the bottle for a juicy and delicious option to add to your dinner with friends. 90 points

Grafter Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Vivino Notes

Aaron:   I enjoyed this cab and Lot 18 continues to impress me.  The full berry nose had a nice blend of mocha to embody what I expect from a cab.  The flavor was dry with a distinct kick of pepper which “roared” in the mouth but in a good way.  Full bodied and bold with enough uniqueness to stand out, this bottle still carries enough berries to be pleasant.  Some mild smoke rounds out the finish with solid tannins. 91 points

Teri: This bottle has a pleasant strawberry-currant smell with firm but good tannins and a strong but not overpowering flavor. On the taste I noticed tobacco, coco, and dark raspberry with some green spinach and oak on the finish. This is a full cab to hold up to strong hearty meals. 90 points

Wayside Red Wine 2013

IMG_7624Lot 18/The Tasting Room, about $13 bottle

Aaron:  Lot 18 has done a pretty good job so far in my opinion.  This red had a pretty big nose of rosy blackberry fields.  The rich, smooth flavor featured prominent vanilla and a little honey coating some rich berries.  The flavor finishes with a slight kick of dark red wood making it more well rounded.  Nice for a bigger blend.  90 points

Teri: Upon first sip, the flavors seemed a bit muddled with a green-leafy aftertaste. The smell Waysideis rich and on the spicy (pepper) side but the flavors are light and somewhat smooth. I tasted pepper, spinach, tobacco, and a hint of dark red berries (yes, this one leans heavier to the mineral and grassy side then fruit flavors). A bit too “mineral” for my personal liking. 88 points

Piledriver Merlot 2013

Aaron:  This features a very full, musky nose with some noticeable cedar.  The flavor is bold as expected with lots of tobacco and some pepper, complemented by blackberries and strawberries.  Leather lingers after the reasonably smooth finish, his is not my favorite but I think it’s pretty good and worth a try. 89 points

Teri: This Merlot has a Dark ruby/burgundy color which is beautiful to look at in the glass. The nose is earthy but the first flavors you taste fill your mouth with raspberry and blackberry. The finish then mirrors the nose containing tobacco, leather, and oak. Because no flavor is overpowering, this would be a great bottle for anyone new to red wine or those who like the middle of the road style in wine making (not too bold, but not weak). 88 points
