Starret Merlot 2014

Starret MerlotLot 18/The Tasting Room, $16/bottle

Aaron:  This was a good middle-of-the-road bottle for me but nothing to go bonkers for.  The smoked burgundy and blackberry smell also featured a hint of jasmine.  I enjoyed the medium-full body with a little bitter strawberry, rose petals, and cherry rounding out the palate.  89 points.

Teri: This merlot has flavors of mellow juniper berry with a leafy finish. Mild bitter oak melts away to smooth tannins on the finish and a velvety mouth feel. Easy to drink and not too complex. Overall, very approachable. 88 points

Sola Syrah 2012

Sola Syrah 2012Purchased from World Market, $14.99

Cellar Tracker Post

Aaron: This was ok but not my favorite.  A peppery pomegranate nose was layered with black granite, porous countertops.  The flavor was bold and a bit shocking at first with more tartness than smooth vanilla.  Prominent spices, chili, and pepper.  88 points

Teri: This wine was easy to drink but not a favorite flavor profile of mine (earthy/mineral characteristics). I tasted muted raspberry, smoke and herbs on the wine with additional minerals lingering on the finish. 86 points

Skrimshaw Pinot Noir 2014

Skrimshaw Pinot NoirPurchased from Lot 18, $17.50/bottle

Aaron:  We’ve been sent a lot of bottles from Skrimshaw, this one wasn’t my favorite.  I got pine and mushroom with tulips on the nose.  The flavor was mostly red berries and maple tree sap with green leaves and oak.  88 points

Teri: A ‘bright’ smell leads to flavors of grassy blueberry and strawberry within the glass. This pinot also has a unique smokey flavor underlining the fruit and a slight hint of herbs on the finish. Extremely easy to drink, yet still complex. 90 points

Raku Zinfandel 2013

Purchased from Lot 18 Wine Club, $18.99/bottleRaku Zinfandel 2013

Aaron: Berries and cedar clouded the nose on this zin, while the flavor was pretty full with some sharp prunes and pepper.  Throughout the flavor there was plum and dark wood.  Overall, not bad, but nothing to write home about.  88 points

Teri: A agree with Aaron…not bad, but nothing amazing here. The leathery raspberry smell matches the hearty flavors of spice, smokey leather, and an underlying oaky rhubarb. An easy go-to, but nothing I would need to drink again. 87 points

Christophe Pinot Noir 2012

WChristophe Pinot Noir 2012e purchased this from an in home wine party, around $19

ABC Wine & Spirits

Aaron: This had a fruity, mulberry nose complemented by some granite and young, oaky moss.  The flavor was smooth and light with a slight kick of smoky pepper on the end.  Nutmeg and strawberries round out the palate and overall I felt this was pretty enjoyable.  91 points

Teri: I love my Pinot’s and this is another quality bottle. The wine had bing cherry and vanilla on the nose with flavors of tart strawberry and leather plus a mild hint of spice. This is an all around easy drinking red wine with a long finish of oak. 88 points
