Le Ruse Renard Cotes Du Rhone 2014

Lot 18, $15

Teri: Aaron and I have different viewpoints on this wine. The nose was full of black cherry and spice while the flavor was smooth plum and white pepper with tartness on the finish. Not very complex and a bit too oaky for my personal taste. 86 points

Aaron: The nose reminds me of black tar coating berries on a plank of oak.  The flavor is mild and smooth with some pepper at the end.  This was pleasant but still a little complex and I felt it was a nice middle of the road bottle.  90 points.

Karma Lion NV Vinho Espumante

Lot 18, $18.49

Aaron: This isn’t super complex, but it tastes pretty good.  Honey and melon on the nose, followed by a sweet, syrupy flavor.  There is more honey, plus brown sugar on the palate with some peach, making this super easy drinking.  90 points

Teri: Sweet peach and red apple with an almost ‘sticky’ mouth feel. This sparkling wine is good but on the sweeter side. Not too complex. Fruity. 89 points.

Longwave Monterey County Syrah 2013

Purchased from Lot 18/The Tasting Room

Aaron: I really like this one.  Light yellow grass nose with dusty rocks and celery.  Flavor The flavor gets bigger in your mouth like a wave.  Lots of berries and some spice for body but not overwhelming.  Dark tobacco leaves coated in molasses and cocoa.  Really nice.  92 points

Teri: Plum and herb on the nose with a nice balance of fruit and herb on the finish. Round and noticeable but smooth tannins. Cassis, plum and a hint of blackberry. Delicious. 91 points

Butcher’s Hook 2015 Mendoza Malbec 2015

Lot 18, $18

Info on Vivino

Aaron: Skip this wine.  Red tar and raspberry with cherry cough syrup made the nose a bit off-putting.  Tart and bitter, the flavor featured awkward tannins on the middle of the tongue, resulting in a puckering of underripe fruit and watermelon rinds. Weak flavor then a punch of spicy pepper.  Horrible.  83 points

Teri: This bottle is bold with hearty tannins and needs a strong meaty dish to stand up to the flavors. It is on the earthy side with a bit too much bite on the end. The flavors of white pepper, leafy tree roots and underlining tone of chocolate covered cherries were tight and not completely enjoyable. Perhaps it needed a few hours to aerate but I would recommend just to skip this bottle. 85 points

Pop Dust Prosecco

Lot 18, $16

Aaron: This is pretty good.  Light, green apple on the nose.  Mild flavor with lots of apricot and pear as well as some saltine crackers.  89 points

Teri: Light nose, but beautiful and sturdy flavors of apple, lemon, walnut and a hint of vanilla. Almost too many bubbles, but that was ok with me. The flavor lingers after you swallow and leaves you wanting more. 91 points
