Aaron: This was a great bottle, fruity nose with some mild greens.  I describe this as very middle of the road and moderate.  While that’s not going to wine awards for wine of the year, it makes it very flexible and easy to pair with lots of meals.  There were young, fruity berries and some fresh tobacco leaves (not dried) on the flavor with goji berries on the finish.  91 points

Teri: A plastic/industrial smell, similar to barley didn’t give me high hopes for what I was going to taste. It surprised me slightly with a blend of herbs up front and then fruit (plum and blueberry) on the finish, although the barley flavor still continued throughout the wine. Medium bodied and light tannins make this an OK wine for me but nothing to brag about. 86 points

Aaron:  This was a pretty solid bottle; big spoiler alert, the flavor and finish feature watermelon (first for me).  Oaky musk and moss on the nose with damp bark and subtle fruits on the palate.  This wasn’t in-your-face fruity but the berries are there too.  Overall, easy drinking and a little tar on the aftertaste.  89 points

Teri: Merlot was never my go-to varietal until I started to taste Washington Merlots. This Yakima grown merlot carries smells of blackberry and white pepper on the nose with flavors of mixed berry and more pepper on the body. I enjoyed the long mouthfeel and the flavor. It’s not too complex overall but juicy and easy to drink. 88 points

Aaron: This is really fruity.  Pineapple, white raspberries, just generally pleasant nose.  The flavor is a little sweeter with honeysuckle and some orange-lemon citrus.  The flavor is crisp and clean but with a very acidic, alcohol flavor on the finish.  90 points

Teri: Fruity nose, good body, and ample stone fruits on the body of the wine. I tasted papaya, lemon, pineapple and a hint of sweet banana. Refreshing and full bodied with nice acidity on the finish. 91 points Perfect to pair with a hot day outside!

Van Camp Cellars Merlot 2013

Purchased from Van Camp Cellars, $25

Aaron:  Love it!  The nose smells exactly like a wild berry bush with dark timber.  The flavor features luscious vanilla and soaked oak.  This tastes like an old moss-covered castle and is absolutely wonderful.  93 points

Teri: Fruity nose and flavors of sweet raspberry with slight white pepper on the finish. A small hint of bitterness but very fruity with full tannins on the back of the mouth. Juicy. 89 points
